For anyone who is worried about the rising cost of your water bill there is something you can do about it. Many properties are now on water meters over the country that can increase bills greatly. Fortunately it is possible to reduce you water bill and help to protect the environment at the same time.
Rainwater harvesting is a simple and cost effective solution to reducing the amount of water that you need from the mains supply. Rainwater which would normally just run down the drain is instead gathered and put to good use round the home and garden. Almost all properties could reap the benefits of a rainwater harvesting system and there a number of options to choose from. Examples include:
Water Butt
This is the most affordable and most straightforward way of harvesting rainwater. In essence this is simply a sizable barrel which gathers water from the down spouts. You can use the water that is collected to water the garden and perform other domestic chores. Watering your plants with gathered rainwater is superior than using the mains supply as rain is naturally soft which almost all plants prefer.
Rainwater Harvesting System
This is the best answer for all areas that have a small yearly rainfall level. The water which is gathered from the roof along with other areas is taken by pipe to an underground storage tank. The water is then filtered to eliminate any pieces of debris in it and a settlement tank is used so small items of debris drop to the bottom. Any water which is gathered can then be pumped to your header water tank and used for household purposes. If there is not enough saved water to fill the tank more can be added from the mains source.
Drinking Water
The rainwater that you collect can also be used for drinking water. However it must be completely filtered and sterilised before it is used for this reason. To make rainwater drinkable a sterilisation unit must be installed and also 25 and 5 micron filter systems.
There are lots of benefits of collecting rainwater for use in the home and back garden. One of the primary advantages is the money that you could save by cutting your household water use. Even a simple water butt will save you a lot of money over its lifetime. In addition to financial advantages there are of course several environmental advantages. Water products at Total Eden.
